Fitzroy Street Pedestrian Crossing Upgrade
Fitzroy Street Pedestrian Crossing Upgrade
The Challenge:
As part of upgrading level crossings along the Main North Line, the Fitzroy Street pedestrian crossing in Tamworth was a project of John Holland Rail CRN. The level crossing contains no vehicle access and is set for signal and civil upgrades. These upgrades will involve a surface upgrade along with associated track works.
The new design will adhere to Australian and JHR standards of compliance for a pedestrian maze, needing to include 10m of pathway and ground levels either side of the track. Hanlons’ surveying expertise were required to ensure materials were placed to meet the current JHR standards and infrastructure was placed in the correct location.
The Solution:
To assist with the project, Hanlons provided supervision and construction support during the building phase. Over five days, Hanlons worked closely with JHR and other sub contractors, conducting resource allocation for plant, equipment and personnel.
The positioning of Strail panels were highly detailed, requiring precision level control for concrete keystone beams. Positioning these panels required the use of our Operations Manager, Tim Milsom’s knowledge and expertise, combined with the use of a Leica Total Station MS50 and spirit level to ensure levels and grade were maintained.
Hanlons maintained layer control during the laying of earthen materials, ensuring heights were in accordance with the design. Our firm also provided report results to JHR at the completion of the Fitzroy Street crossing project. As with any construction process, Hanlons ensure a smooth transition from start to finish, providing solutions to problems that may arise along the way. By working closely with JHR, we have established a track record of providing an experienced team to conduct quality work, solving problems and getting the work done.
