Main West and Orange-Broken Hill lines

Main West and Orange-Broken Hill lines

The Challenge:

The client request we establish  survey control and undertake track design over multiple sections of the NSW Main West railway. This line is one of the oldest in NSW with many tight curves and short straight sections thereby causing track wear. In accordance with their multi-year program, the client intended to re-sleeper all curves with concrete sleepers and replace defective track. The design brief required 80 km/h track speeds and minimal track pulls from the existing alignment.

The Solution:

Survey work commenced in December 2017 with rolling deadlines throughout the first half of 2018.

The Main West and Broken Hill lines service the western parts of NSW and beyond to South Australia and Western Australia. Steel and rail manufactured by the Whyalla Steel Works is shipped to the eastern seaboard using the Broken Hill line. Much of the rail is destined for use on the Inland Rail project.

We thank JHR for their continued confidence. We have been a continued supplier of survey, design and environmental services since JHR's commenced management of the Country Rail Network on behalf of Transport for NSW
